Let's talk about The Deadmines. With patch 4.0.3a, the whole world has changed, and that includes the inside of the Deadmines. Fight mechanics have changed with the new mobs that trot around in the forsaken mines. I'll talk you through soloĆng the Dead Mines as a level 20 palagrim! The Basics
The Deadmines, are located in the city of Moonbrook (Westfall, Eastern Kingdoms). You have to enter one of the Defias hide outs, and after walking down through the cellar of the house, you’ll found the entrance around 40.50 82.45. I run with a Protection Spec, and 3 heirloom piece's: Plate chest, Plate shoulders, and a Sword. The rest is all been gained through questing.
Take the quest from quest giver Horatio Laine. For the CSI fans under you, yes, this is a wordplay with Horatio Caine, the solemn red haired detective from CSI: Miami. He’ll give you your first quest, and a device on which he can contact you for more quests.
Apart from your quest giver, you’ll also find the gnomish devises known as Teleporters. Those are a new Blizzard trick of helping you. In case you should die, you can hop on a transporter, to the located closed to where you died. There are several spawn points throughout the dungeon, and will definitely decrease the amount of time spent walking. On the subject of dying; Blizzard has been so kind to put a resurrection spirit next to the entrance of the dungeon, all I assume, so you can spent more time fighting, and less time walking back to where you died.
Glubtok
Upon venturing into the cave, you’ll find some goblins with monkey slaves. You can free the slaves, and kill the goblins. A nice touch from Blizzard; the goblin females throw bottles with liquor that make you drunk, and the goblin men have whips with electricity.
The first boss encounter is Glubtok. Tactics are very straight forward. The first phase is a simple exchange of blows and some magic on his behalf. Once you have him halfway down, he’ll resort only to his magical abilities. This is the time to stay very close to him, as he casts AoE spells around. (Doing this alone is an advantage here; the AoE can make this difficult for healers of an entire group)
Helix Gearbreaker
The next boss you’ll encounter is a Goblin riding the back of an ogre. This is pretty much a boss that can potentially be hard on a group, but for a palagrim not so much. A lot of the boss’s damage is focused AoE (much like Ick on the Pit of Saron dungeon), he drops bombs. Keep hitting him, and make sure to heal yourself every now and then. Expect the boss fights to take a while. Keep an eye on your mana, if you have drink a potion in this fight, don’t feel ashamed, but please check your dmg rotation, as it should not be necessary.
Foe Reaper 5000
This boss is not difficult, despite the fact that he looks somewhat impressive to take down on your own. Keep a cool head, put out damage, and heal yourself. This fight can take long too, as he has quite some health points. He does not however, put out much dps. Just keep a steady pace, and you should be fine.
After the fight, you’ll probably notice a gnome teleporter!
The Admiral
You have almost reached the ship with the final boss on it. But before you get to go slay Defias Pirates, you have to make your way through a tunnel containing humanoids. The trick to these groups of humanoids is taking down the spell caster first! Taking down spellcasters first is usually a good thing to do, but in this setting crucial. The non spellcasters have been given a ninja like trick of disappearing mid fight, and popping up behind you. Annoying as this is, it doesn’t do you any damage.
Now you can venture forward to the ship. Pull mobs by the 1 or 2, you can probably survive groups of three, but it will take longer time wise if you pull them three at the time. Have some fun with the canons too! You can use the canons to shoot at the pirates!
The final boss is on the upper deck. It’s a Worgen now, and I must say, I died here when first trying it. See, foul and evil as he is, he spawns ghostly creeps that, if not kept in check, will quickly outdo your own healing powers. You’ll be fighting the boss, and the ghosts. Try to kill some of the ghosts each time he spawns a couple, but then turn your attention to the boss himself.
Capt Cookie
After downing the boss, make sure to get back to full mana and health, and then check the cabin on the deck. You’ll find Cookie, the notorious head chef Murloc there! I’m not going spoil the fun, but let me just say that his fight mechanics have changed, and that it now involves a cooking pot, and food being thrown at you!
The statistics:
Well, I started this on just level 20, with no resting bonus. When was finished, I had gained two levels; I walked out a level 22 Palagrim. I did not make that much money on it though. I started out with 98.50 gold, and came out with 100.69 gold. This is sole money drops, and does not include all the junk I could sell and all the cloth drops. It took me roughly an hour and a half to finish this dungeon, and I went for as much xp as possible, so I almost didn’t skip any mobs.
Closing notes
I must say this was a challenge, but not a really big one. I feel I could have started a level earlier, but I think that I then would not have been able to down the last boss, simply because of the lack of health & mana points. Basic tactics sufficed, and kept me going in a good time! I had a good time doing it, and I was pleased to see I gained two levels!
Please ask me any questions you have in the comments, I’ll be happy to answer them!
